In the past qualified bank clerks had to primarily be able to calculate well. This ability of the applicants has been tested very thoroughly by the banks and insurance companies. Obviously calculating skills, logical thinking, general education and diligence are still very important today, but the after the completion of the apprenticeship the trainees will need skills beyond mere calculations.
Today, employees need more skills for dealing with the customers and sales talent. Those competences might not be fully developed by young people, nevertheless a certain affinity and existing talent can be detected at the time of the application.
